Agbiz and the Banking Association of South Africa (BASA) earlier in the year developed a financing for land reform model, in line with the objectives of the National Development Plan, providing a commercial alternative to, amongst others, the Strengthening of Relative Rights (SRR) of people working the land policy framework by government.
This plan has since its announcement been in principle approved by DRDLR Minister, Mr Gugile Nkwinti.
Currently a MoU is being finalised between Agbiz, BASA and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR). It will most probably be finalised and signed by 12 December 2015. Four pilot projects are being identified by each of the respective agri-banks involved. Agbiz is very satisfied with this development and foresee that this platform can provide for other successful Land Reform projects in future. For more information the Agbiz office can be contacted on land line 012 807 6686.
An update on the progress of further pilot projects related to the SRR framework by DRDLR, as mentioned above, was presented at the Task Team for Outcome 7 meeting earlier this week - View presentation here. Please note the selection criteria for proposals. Agribusinesses can contact Lindie at Agbiz for more information if anyone would be interested in submitting a proposal in this regard.
