State launches programme to make armyworm fall

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has confirmed that the fall armyworm is indeed in SA. But experts say the pest, which has already devastated crops in several neighbouring countries, is unlikely to wreak as much havoc locally as it has elsewhere.

South Africa’s food producer inflation declines slightly

Recent Producer Price Index data shows that food products (producer) inflation fell to 11.1% year-on-year (y/y) in December 2016.This signals a slight easing of price pressures that could be passed on to the consumer and be reflected in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data.
