Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index improves significantly in Q3 of 2016

After remaining below 50 index points for five consecutive quarters, the Agbiz/IDC Confidence Index recovered significantly in the third quarter of this year. This is the highest reading since the third quarter of 2014.

South Africa’s crop production estimates paint a mixed picture

Recent data from the National Crop Estimate Committee (CEC) showed an upward revision in yellow maize production, up by 1% from the previous estimate to 4.2 million tons.

Drought has cost SA R2bn in lost exports

SA’s worst drought in decades has cost the country billions of rand in lost export revenue.  The country’s agricultural exports declined in 2015 for the first time in 10 years, Overall, the country’s agricultural exports shrank from R106bn in 2014 to R104bn in 2015, the business chamber said.
