Established in January 2019, Agbiz Fruit serves as a dedicated desk within Agbiz, funded by FruitSA members. Led by Wolfe Braude, the desk plays a critical role in policy advocacy and trade facilitation for the South African fruit industry. Operating as a full-time embedded resource within Agbiz, it ensures effective engagement between the fruit sector and the broader agricultural policy landscape.

Scope of Activities

Policy & Advocacy

  • Representing the fruit industry’s policy needs within broader agricultural discussions.
  • Engaging government officials, trade specialists, and industry stakeholders to advocate for a trade-enabling environment.
  • Supporting FruitSA member initiatives while maintaining professional and objective management.
  • Liaising with media on industry matters in consultation with the Agbiz CEO.

Developing a Trade-Enabling Environment

  • Facilitating international trade opportunities for the fruit sector.
  • Providing professional input at local and international trade forums.
  • Conducting ongoing research on trade and investment trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Offering insights into regulatory developments affecting the fruit industry.

The Fruit Desk also functions as a resource for Agbiz on cross-cutting trade and logistics issues, ensuring broader agricultural trade concerns—including those of wine, wool, grain, and animal products—are effectively represented in discussions with government and stakeholders.
