Water Efficiency Workshop 2019

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), member of the World Bank Group, and Agbiz hosted a very successful workshop dedicated to water efficiency in agri-processing in Pretoria on 25 March 2019. This event afforded for various groups of stakeholders, including private companies, sector associations, development partners and policymakers, an opportunity to discuss the issues and challenges related to water use that the sector is currently facing. In the second session the regulatory aspects of water use, and how sustainable water use could be incentivised through policy measures and collective action were also discussed.
Increasing water scarcity in South Africa, coupled with increasing cost of energy and fuel, is threatening the competitiveness and sustainability of the agri-processing sector, a key driver of economic growth.
