Agbiz acknowledges the announcement of the retirement of its Chairperson, Sean Walsh, from his role as Chief Executive Officer of KAL Group Limited after nearly 15 years of dedicated leadership. Walsh will, however, continue to serve as Chairperson of Agbiz until the Agbiz Congress in June.
Sean Walsh has played a pivotal role in shaping KAL Group Limited and the broader agribusiness sector in South Africa. Appointed CEO in 2011, he led the organisation through a period of significant growth and transformation, building on a career spanning operations, logistics, manufacturing, retail, and agribusiness leadership across several prominent organisations. His professional journey includes executive roles at SA Breweries, Sefalana Holdings Company Ltd, Derek Brink Holdings, SBV Services, and GWK Ltd. He holds an Honours B.Econ degree in Transport Economics from Stellenbosch University.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Walsh has made an immeasurable contribution to Agbiz, where he has served as Chairperson and as a longstanding member of the Agbiz Steering Committee.
Theo Boshoff, CEO of Agbiz, commented:
“Sean’s contribution to Agbiz and the broader agribusiness sector has been immense. It has been my immense pleasure to work under Sean’s guidance as the Chairman over the past two years but his leadership at Agbiz extended far beyond that, having served on the Steering Committee the past decade. His steady and thoughtful leadership has helped to shape Agbiz’s strategic direction as an important and affective industry association for the agricultural value chain.”
Boshoff added that Walsh’s continued role as Chairperson until Congress will ensure continuity as Agbiz prepares for its next phase of leadership and strategic engagement.
“We are grateful that Sean will remain actively involved in Agbiz in the coming months until our new Steerco will be elected at Congress in June,” Boshoff said.
Agbiz extends its sincere appreciation to Sean Walsh for his years of dedicated service, leadership and commitment to advancing agribusiness in South Africa. His impact has been felt not only within the organisations he has led but across the broader agricultural value chain.
Further updates regarding Agbiz leadership will be communicated following the upcoming Agbiz Congress in June.
