Agbiz hosted a highly successful Western Cape Media Day on 23 October 2025 at Percheron Hall, Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute, under the theme “Reframing the Narrative on South Africa’s Fruit Sector.”
The day opened with Temba Msiza, Agbiz Digital Communications Manager, who introduced Agbiz and outlined the event’s purpose, to reposition South Africa’s fruit industry in the public narrative by highlighting its innovation, economic value, and social impact.
The event featured thought-provoking presentations by Dr Boitshoko Ntshabele (Citrus Growers Association of Southern Africa), Mecia Petersen (South African Table Grape Industry), Michael Esmeraldo (Netafim), Wolfe Braude (Agbiz Fruit), Fhumulani Ratshitanga (Fruit South Africa), and a live demonstration by Petru Du Plessis (Hortgro Stone).
Discussions highlighted how technology, trade, and water innovation are driving sustainability and how fruit exports support local food security and employment.
A panel titled “Realities, Regulations, and Resilience – How Agriculture Brings Safe Food to Our Tables” featured Annelize Crosby, Dr Ilse Trautmann, Paula Bester, Roleen La Grange, and Kobus Hartman, who unpacked the importance of food safety and the role of collaboration between industry and regulators.
The event concluded with networking over lunch, giving media representatives the opportunity to engage directly with industry experts and deepen their understanding of the fruit sector’s contribution to South Africa’s economy.
